Meet Our Director

Teri Aboulafia is the Director and Co-Founder of The Pioneer School. Before founding Pioneer, Teri spent nine years supporting two Montessori schools in St. Augustine, where she contributed to marketing, networking, fundraising, PTO leadership, and substitute teaching. Inspired by the transformative experience her two children had at a “homestead camp” led by educator Cristina Pope, Teri partnered with Cristina to launch a middle school designed for families seeking a more organic, engaging, and holistic educational experience.

Words From Our Families

The Pioneer School does an outstanding job focusing on the whole child through developmentally appropriate, as well as, stimulating curriculum. My son, who has dyslexia, attended Montessori schools since Pre-K thrived at the Pioneer School. Cristina and Teri see the potential in all children and empower them to be self sufficient, independent, and confident.

This amazing, ‘out-of-the-box’ school was just what we needed for our amazing, ‘out-of-the-box’ son! I just wish every child could have this opportunity and not just a few. It was such a gift to have this amazing school available to bridge the gap so successfully between, essentially, childhood and the run-up to adulthood. The Middle School years are an age and period in a person’s life that can be foundational to success and joyfulness in life—or not. These amazing educators have created an environment for learning that is unlike any other.

“I highly recommend the Pioneer School for any homeschooling/alternative-schooling parent in search of a safe, structured environment for their 6th-8th grade child. I wish an option like the Pioneer School was available for me when I was in middle school!

My goodness, where to start about how wonderful this school is… my wife and I have a “hashtag” that we each say to each other all the time about this school…#wortheverypenny!! Every time our two boys come home and tell us about something they’ve learned, be it a new life skill, or having developed an opinion about a current event to which they’ve been exposed.. “#wortheverypenny“!
